Why with your smartphone?

You may be wondering why you should do vibration testing on your smartphone when there are a variety of professional vibration sensors on the market.

The answer is simple: you save a lot of time and money!

While the wiring of the professional accelerometers with the measuring computers costs a lot of time and therefore man-hours, you simply place the smartphone with the myFrequency app on the object to be examined and the measurement can begin. In addition, the results are displayed directly on your smartphone and can be interpreted using frequency spectra. Thus, many functions are bundled on a single device (your smartphone) and processed user-friendly.

Professional accelerometers have sensitivity (sensitivity) of up to 5000 mV / g. The sensors of modern smartphones, however, only reach about 200 mV / g.

Nevertheless, comparative measurements between professional measurement technology and the smartphone sensors revealed an average deviation of the determined frequency peaks of just 1.1%. It turns out that for the construction industry a lower sensitivity of the sensors is quite sufficient to cover most of the vibration problems.

Engineers use our app, for example, to obtain a rough estimation of the vibration behavior in advance, without much effort and expensive measurement technology.

Installation of the smartphone

You can install your smartphone in different ways on the device under test.

For vertical vibrations, it is usually sufficient to place the smartphone on a horizontal surface. If you want to detect horizontal vibrations, such as from ropes and hangers or supports, the smartphone must first be attached to the object by means of accessories. For this purpose, smartphone bags with Velcro (available in sports shops), adhesive tape or sleeves with magnets, such as those used for assembly in automobiles, can be used.
